People of Delhi made Kejriwal CM because of his honesty: Delhi Minister Gopal Rai

New Delhi [India], September 15 : Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai said on Sunday that the people of Delhi elected Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister due to his honesty.
He also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for running "a mega campaign" over the past two years to portray Kejriwal as corrupt.
"The people of Delhi chose Arvind Kejriwal as their Chief Minister because of his honesty. Despite the BJP's two-year-long mega campaign to prove Kejriwal corrupt, they failed," Rai told ANI.
"All the leaders have been released from jail. For the first time in history, a leader has openly declared that if he (Arvind Kejriwal) is honest, people should vote for him; if not, they shouldn't. Arvind Kejriwal has handed himself over to the public, and now the people will decide whether he is honest or not," he added.
Earlier today, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation within two days, stating that he would not resume his duties until the people of Delhi declared him "honest."
Kejriwal also stated that if the public voted for him, it would serve as validation of his honesty. He mentioned plans to call for early elections, possibly alongside those in Maharashtra.
Reacting to this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari called the move a "PR stunt," accusing Kejriwal of attempting to restore his image.
"This is a PR stunt by Arvind Kejriwal. He knows that his image among the people of Delhi is no longer that of an honest leader but of a corrupt one. Today, the Aam Aadmi Party is widely seen as a corrupt party. Through this stunt, he aims to rehabilitate his image," Bhandari said.
On Saturday, Kejriwal held a meeting with senior party leaders to discuss various issues, including the upcoming assembly polls in Haryana and the party's organisation in Delhi. He was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening, hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail in connection with a corruption case linked to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam.
