New Delhi [India], December 15 : After being nominated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to contest from the Greater Kailash Assembly seat, party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Sunday asserted that the party had no hesitation in announcing its candidates and expressed confidence that the people of Delhi would vote for AAP.
"AAP is clearly ahead in preparations for the Assembly elections. We have no confusion in announcing our candidates, and the people also have no doubt in electing their leader. The people of Delhi will vote for AAP," he stated.
Speaking to ANI about the competition in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, Bharadwaj contrasted AAP's candidate with others, highlighting the achievements of party leader Arvind Kejriwal.
"On one side, there is an ordinary man, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who cleared IIT, became an IRS officer, and later the Chief Minister of Delhi, all on his own. On the other side, there are two candidates who are primarily known by their parents' names," he remarked.
The Congress party has fielded Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, as its candidate for the New Delhi Assembly seat in the upcoming polls. Meanwhile, BJP leader Parvesh Verma, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, announced on Saturday that he is preparing to contest from the same constituency.
AAP released its fourth and final list of 38 candidates for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. According to the list, Kejriwal will contest from New Delhi, Chief Minister Atishi from Kalkaji, Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj from Greater Kailash, and Minister Gopal Rai from Babarpur.
Satyendra Kumar Jain has been fielded from Shakur Basti, Durgesh Pathak from Rajinder Nagar, Ramesh Pehalwan from Kasturba Nagar, Raghuvinder Shokeen from Nangloi Jat, Som Dutt from Sadar Bazar, Imran Hussain from Ballimaran, and Jarnail Singh from Tilak Nagar.
The list features two new names, while the remaining 36 candidates are sitting MLAs who have been re-nominated. AAP has fielded Ramesh Pehalwan from Kasturba Nagar and Naresh Balyan's wife, Pooja Naresh Balyan, from Uttam Nagar.
BJP leader Ramesh Pehalwan and his wife, Kusumlata Ramesh, officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday. The couple was welcomed into the party by Arvind Kejriwal.
The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has struggled in the last two assembly elections, failing to win a single seat. In the 2020 Assembly elections, AAP secured 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP won eight.
