New Delhi [India], July 22 :Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dinesh Sharma said that there is no objection to the Supreme Court's order staying the Kanwar Yatra directives and expressed that people also should have no objection to presenting their identities.
The apex court earlier today put an interim stay on directives issued by the authorities of certain state governments that eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route should display the names of the owners outside such shops.
"There is no objection to the Supreme Court judgment; whatever the apex Court rules is accepted. But it is a normal practice; people should have no objection to presenting their identity. When we clear competitive exams and become an IAS officer, we mention IAS with our name, when we become doctors, we mention that with our name," said Sharma.
He further emphasised that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led UP government's priority is that the Kanwar Yatra goes well.
"Anyway, 40-50 per cent of the people mention their names in shops. I think people should not have objected to it. But we accept the decision of the Supreme Court...The priority of the government is that the Kanwar Yatra goes well, miscreants do not harm its sanctity..." he added.
Notably, the Supreme Court on Monday put an interim stay on directives issued by the authorities of certain state governments that eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route should display the names of the owners outside such shops.
The top court was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the directive issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar, in Uttar Pradesh, to shop owners to display their names outside shops during the Kanwar Yatra season. The police had said that the decision was in the interest of law and order.
The directive was reportedly enforced across many districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh also came up with similar directives.
Last week, the Uttar Pradesh government asked the food and beverage shops along Kanwar Yatra routes to display the name and identity of the operator/owner of their establishments.
