Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], August 20 : After the Centre asked the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to cancel the latest advertisement for lateral entry into the bureaucracy, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a significant decision emphasizing social justice.
"Today the Prime Minister has taken an important decision keeping in mind social justice on the matter of lateral entry which was going on for the last 3-4 days. Our Minister of State in the PMO, who also looks after DoPT, has written a letter to the UPSC that until the full provisions of reservation are made, you should withdraw this. This shows that the Prime Minister is committed to social justice," he said.
Meghwal pointed out that although the concept of lateral entry started during the Congress era, this decision demonstrates the Prime Minister's commitment to ensuring that reservations are fully respected, particularly for the SC, ST, and OBC communities.
Although it is true that lateral entry started from the Congress era... On the point of reservation, the Prime Minister is always seen standing with the poor. In this decision, the Prime Minister is seen standing with the SC, ST and OBSs..."
Lok Janshakti party leader and Union Minister Chirag Paswan praised the Centre's move and thanked the Prime Minister.
"As the issue of Lateral entry came to our notice, I have been holding discussions with various departments. I also kept my views in front of the Prime Minister...Congress governments and opposition governments formed in alliance in the past have done lateral entries...The opposition is trying to create an atmosphere that this is being introduced for the first time...Today the advertisement for the lateral entry recruitment has been cancelled. I and LJP (Ram Vilas) thank PM Modi for it...He has again won the trust of the society," Paswn said.
Meanwhile, the Congress has claimed a victory for opposing the scheme after the Union Government decided to cancel the advertisement by the UPSC that had called for lateral entry jobs in mid-level posts.
In a post on X, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said, "We will protect the Constitution and the reservation system at all costs. We will foil conspiracies like BJP's 'lateral entry' at any cost. I am saying it again - by breaking the 50% reservation limit, we will ensure social justice based on the caste census. Jai Hind."
