PM Modi engaged in own felicitation when soldiers were fighting for country: Congress leader

New Delhi [India], September 14 : Congress leader Colonel Rohit Chaudhary hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for engaging in self-congratulations at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) event in New Delhi at a time when Indian Army jawans in Rajouri were engaged in an encounter.
"I am surprised that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi was engaged in his own felicitation when our soldiers were fighting for our country. Did they forget our soldiers?" Congress leader Colonel Rohit Chaudhary said speaking at a press conference in New Delhi.
The BJP Parliament Board on Wednesday passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the successful completion of the G20 summit in India and highlighting his "impeccable leadership and unwavering commitment".
Slamming the Prime Minister, the Colonel said, "Why were you celebrating? Why were you getting felicitated by your own people? How important was it that you did not suspend your program despite such a major incident in the country?"
The Congress leader played a video at the press conference and reminded the attendees that back in 2019, when the Pulwama terror attack took place Prime Minister Narendra Modi was busy shooting for a documentary.
"In 2019 when 40 soldiers died while travelling to Srinagar by road on being denied travel by flight at a time when infiltration was at its peak, Prime Minister Modi was shooting for a documentary. His shooting did not stop as our soldiers’ blood kept flowing. Is this right?" the Colonel said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reportedly shooting a Discovery documentary titled 'Man vs Wild' with Bear Grylls at the time of the encounter, the Congress leader claimed.
Alerting the soldiers that it will be a difficult time for soldiers given the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Rohit Chaudhary said, "More than 30 terrorist attacks took place this year in the country. Many soldiers laid down their lives. This is a difficult time for soldiers since this is election time. Pulwama was done during the elections."
An Indian Army Colonel commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Unit along with a Major and a Deputy Superintendent of Police were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Kokernag area of Kashmir's Anantnag district on Wednesday. The killed officers have been identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak and DSP Humayun Bhat.
Earlier on Tuesday, two terrorists were killed by security forces during an encounter that began in the Narla area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
