New Delhi [India], February 2 : Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur, stating that despite ongoing violence in the state for months, the Prime Minister adeptly transforming "untruth into truth."
"Violence has been going on in Manipur for months, but PM Modi has not visited Manipur to date," Kharge said in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
He pointed out that just two days ago, two people lost their lives, contradicting the government's assertion of peace in Manipur.
"The day before yesterday two people died and you saying that there is peace. There is devastation in Manipur, but the government says there is peace there. PM Modi knows the art of turning untruth into truth," he added.
Shifting his focus to the plight of women wrestlers, Kharge expressed concern that justice had not been served for them, and the perpetrators had been protected.
"Women are being tortured in various areas. Women wrestlers did not get justice and the culprit was saved. PM Modi speaks for hours on specific issues but does not say anything on matters like violence in Manipur, insult to women and atrocities on Dalits," he added.
Highlighting the issue of India-China issue, he said that if China is not stopped then it will gradually occupy the country's land.
"We are leaving our land under the control of China. Recently a video went viral, in which it can be seen that Indian shepherds were being stopped from passing by PLA Chinese soldiers near Patrolling Points 35 and 36. If China is not stopped then it will gradually occupy our land," he added.
Manipur has been witnessing ethnic strife between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo tribal community since May 2023.
