Polling parties to depart on Sunday for fifth phase of polls, assembly by-election

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 19 : In Uttar Pradesh, polling parties are being dispatched to polling booths to ensure the fair and peaceful conduct of voting scheduled for May 20 for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 and the by-election on the Lucknow East Assembly constituency, an official said.
Instructions have been issued to all District Election Officers for the timely dispatch of polling parties, an official said.
It is noteworthy that in the fifth phase, elections will be held in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state, including Mohanlalganj, Lucknow, Raebareli, Amethi, Jalaun, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Banda, Fatehpur, Kaushambi, Barabanki, Faizabad, Kaiserganj, and Gonda, while there will be a by-election in the Lucknow East Assembly constituency.
The Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Navdeep Rinwa, said that "All District Election Officers related to the Lok Sabha constituencies of the fifth phase have been directed to provide necessary facilities for voters and polling personnel at polling booths and polling centres. The polling personnel will be provided with medical kits ahead of their departure in order to enable them to tackle heatstroke and other health-related cases at the polling booths."
The Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh are being held in seven phases. Polling in the first four phases has already been completed. Polling for the remaining Lok Sabha seats will be held on May 20, May 25, and June 1. The counting of votes will be done on June 4.
In the 2019 general elections in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP won 62 out of 80 seats, and its ally Apna Dal (S) won two seats. Mayawati's BSP won 10 seats, while Akhilesh Yadav's SP won five. The Congress party secured only one seat.
