Punjab and Sind Bank posts 24 pc growth in profit to Rs 373 crore in third quarter

New Delhi [India], January 21 Public sector lender Punjab and Sind Bank on Saturday posted an increase of 23.92 per cent in its net profit to Rs 373 crore for the third quarter (October-December), against Rs 301 crore in the year-ago period.
The state-run bank said its interest income went up 12.61 per cent to Rs 2,107 crore from Rs 1,871 crore in the corresponding quarter the previous year. Its net interest income rose 6.20 per cent to Rs 805 crore from Rs 758 crore in the year-ago period. The bank's non-interest income declined 2.13 per cent to Rs 138 crore in the third quarter, against Rs 171 crore in the year-ago period.
The lender said its operating profit went up 3.61 per cent to Rs 344 crore from Rs 332 crore in the year-ago period. The bank's gross non-performing assets were Rs 6,500 crore, against Rs 9,636 crore in the corresponding period the previous year.
Punjab and Sind Bank is a public sector bank headquartered in New Delhi. As of March 31, 2020, the bank has 1,526 branches which are widely spread across India out of which 635 branches are in the state of Punjab, and 25 zonal offices located all over India.
In the second quarter, Punjab and Sind Bank said its net profit rose 27 per cent to Rs 278 crore on the back of a reduction in bad loans. The bank had reported a profit of Rs 218 crore in the year-ago period.
The bank's total income during the July-September quarter of FY23 rose to Rs 2,120.17 crore against Rs 1,974.78 crore in the corresponding period of FY22, Punjab & Sind Bank said in a regulatory filing. The bank's gross non-performing assets (NPAs) declined to 9.67 per cent of the gross advances at the end of September 2022 from 14.54 per cent during the same period a year ago.
