Punjab: Police arrest one member of Vicky Gounder gang, seize 3 weapons

Jalandhar (Punjab) [India], April 28 : One alleged operative of the Vicky Gounder gang has been arrested with weapons from Jalandhar, a top police officer said on Sunday.
The police also recovered three weapons from him.
In a post on X, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said, "In a major breakthrough, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police intensifies ongoing crackdown on organized crime. One operative of Vicky Gounder Group held with 3 Weapons."
"The Gang is involved in multiple heinous crimes such as arms and drugs trafficking, attempt to murder, extortion, and others. An FIR was registered and an investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages," the DGP added.
"Punjab police is fully committed to eradicating organised crime and maintaining peace and harmony in the state," he added.

On April 26, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab police, in a joint operation with Central agencies and Jammu and Kashmir police, arrested 11 members of an organized criminal gang operated by Charanjit Singh alias Raju shooter.
The police recovered four weapons, including three pistols a double barrel gun, and 26 live cartridges from their procession.
In a post on X, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said, "In a major breakthrough, AGTF Punjab in a joint operation with Central agencies & J&K Police, has arrested 11 members of an organised criminal gang operated by Charanjit Singh alias Raju Shooter."
"In September 2023 the gang was involved in a failed attempt to loot a bank at Village Dhotian, Tarn Taran in which one police officer was critically wounded in firing by the accused persons. On April 16, associates of Raju shooter had orchestrated his escape from Civil Hospital, Tarn Taran where he was admitted for treatment," the DGP further said.
"The arrested accused were involved in organised criminal activities such as attempt to murder, robbery, drug smuggling. Four weapons (3 Pistols & a double barrel gun) and 26 live cartridges have been recovered. Punjab police is fully committed to eradicate organised crime in the state," he added.
