Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 13 : Former Madhya Pradesh Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Hardeep Singh Dang on Friday came down heavily on Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his recent 'Sikh' remarks in the US and said that the latter should apologise.
The BJP MLA also said that it was very painful and condemnable that whenever the Congress leader went abroad, he insulted India.
"It is very painful and condemnable that whenever Rahul Gandhi goes abroad, he returns insulting India. Rahul Gandhi's remark on Sikh community is very painful. I believe there is respect for Sikh community across the globe but if he speaks such things then it is shameful," Dang told ANI.
When asked about Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi backing Rahul Gandhi, the BJP MLA said that Channi should put a 'Chhanni'(filter) in his mind.
"Channi should place a Chhanni (filter) in his mind and he is appreciating Rahul Gandhi to save himself. One should ask him what Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath are doing at your party? What he would like to say on 1984 anti-Sikh riots? He should give these answers first. You can't do politics by adulating Rahul Gandhi. You should come forward and say to Rahul Gandhi that it is wrong. Does Channi ji have any problem in India or in Punjab when it roams with pagdi? He should answer it," Dang asked.
When questioned about pro-Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun supporting Rahul Gandhi remark, the BJP MLA said, "How shameful it is that when Pannun is supporting Rahul Gandhi, it is clear that the feelings of Rahul Gandhi and Pannun are the same."
"I demand that Rahul Gandhi should apologise to the nation. If he doesn't do so then we will oppose him as Sikh community has always supported the truth. I believe that the 1984 anti-Sikh riots are in front of him and terrorist organisations are supporting him, so the country is watching him and he should apologise to the nation," he added.
Notably, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, during his interaction with the Indian diaspora in the US said that the fight is about whether a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear a turban in India and would be able to visit a Gurdwara.
"First of all, you have to understand what the fight is about. Fight is not about politics. It is superficial. What is your name? The fight is about whether he, as a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India. Or he as a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear a kada in India. Or a Sikh is going to be able to go to Gurdwara. That's what the fight is about, and not just for him, for all religions," he said.
