Rahul Gandhi will not be able to work as leader of opposition effectively: BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar

New Delhi [India], June 8 : BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar on Saturday took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi, citing his frequent foreign visits, and expressed doubts about his ability to work as the leader of the opposition effectively.
His statement comes after reports claimed that Congress will make Rahul Gandhi the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
"Even before this, Rahul Gandhi has been seen going to Italy or some other country from time to time, so if the opposition leader goes away like this from time to time, then he will not be able to work as the leader of the opposition," he told ANI.
The Congress Working Committee passed the resolution that party MP Rahul Gandhi should be appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, sources said on Saturday.
Rahul Gandhi won the Lok Sabha elections from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala.
The meeting of the extended Congress Working Committee was held in the national capital on Saturday. The meeting was attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Manish Tiwari, DK Shivakumar, and Revanth Reddy among others.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls the BJP won 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally of 303. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. While the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats, the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark.
On Wednesday, leaders of parties in the NDA held a meeting and elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader. PM Modi will lead third successive NDA government as Prime Minister.
Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is likely to take oath for the third successive term in office on June 9.
