Ranchi Rail Division takes steps to maintain law and order in view of Kurmis' agitation

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], September 19 : The Ranchi Rail Division has taken all possible steps to maintain law and order in the wake of the agitation called by Kurmi organisations from Wednesday.
The Kurmis are demanding ST status for the community and inclusion of Kurmali language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
Kurmis are expected to hit the railway tracks at nine locations across Jharkhand Odisha and West Bengal.
The main centre point of the agitation in Jharkhand will be at Muri Junction located under Ranchi Division where at least 10,000 people are expected to hit the railway tracks over the demands of ST status of the community and also the inclusion of Kurmali language in the eight schedule of the constitution.
Pawan Kumar, Divisional Security Commissioner of Ranchi Division under SE Railways said, "The RPF would be deploying its 150 jawans at Muri while the district administration is also expected to post another 300 police jawans so that no untoward incident takes place".
He said that hampering the movement on railway tracks is a punishable offence. 
He said that so far,  in the wake of agitation on Tuesday nine trains have been cancelled and seven have been diverted.
