Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], March 28 : Himachal Pradesh Congress President Pratibha Singh on Thursday expressed her willingness to contest against Kangana Ranaut from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat if directed by the top leadership of the grand old party.
Currently holding the Mandi seat in the Lok Sabha, speaking to ANI, Pratibha Singh said, "If they finalise my name, I will go to the field to fight the elections. I have visited almost all areas as an MP in the constituency. It's fine that the BJP has given their candidate. During the meeting yesterday, I was told that I am the best candidate for the party from Mandi, as I had visited all areas of the constituency in Mandi. They have suggested my name and I have told them to take up the matter with High Command, and I will follow the directions of the party leadership."
Commenting on the BJP's decision to field Kangana Ranaut from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, Pratibha Singh said that it is important to see which person has contributed to the state as per ability.
"She has contributed and given fame to Himachal Pradesh in Bollywood. As far as a politician is concerned, she is new to this. The people of the constituency will decide who is the better candidate for them. During the disaster, what have you contributed to the state? Now people will have to see who is better and who will contribute to the issue of the area," she said.
On the purported post made for Kangana Ranaut by Congress' social media chairperson, Supriya Shrinate, Pratibha Singh said, "As a woman, I respect women and we don't believe in speaking against women, Congress has given the honor to women and will not tolerate any unhealthy language against women."
As the controversy raged, Supriya Shrinate clarified that she could never make such personal and indecent comments about any woman.
Meanwhile, party leader Sandeep Dixit said on Tuesday that there is no place for such language and remarks, adding that Supriya Shrinate has already clarified her position and is looking further into the matter.
Addressing a press conference, Congress leader Sandeep Dixit said, "Supriya has already clarified that she was not involved in this. She is looking into the matter. There is no place for such language, Congress is very clear on this issue."
