"Repair work of Tungabhadra dam gate started...": Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], August 12 : Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday said that the gate of Tungabhadra Dam has been damaged, adding that the repair work is underway and soon it would be repaired.
Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said two firms had been approached to repair the dam gate.
"At 10:30 gate was damaged in Tungabhadra Dam, I got information at 11:30 pm. Right after that, I got information and our minister also visited the spot. I told him to make decisions for the safety of the dam and do what can be done. We are releasing water to safeguard the dam. Tungabhadra dam is in the control of the centre and Andhra Pradesh also is on the committee, I have spoken to them and they have suggested safeguarding the dam. Repair work has already started. We are working on managing water as well," Shivakumar said.
He further said that within three to four days repair work will be done.
"As far as the safety of the dams is concerned I have also formed the committee to look after all the dams in Karnataka," he added.
The Karnataka Deputy CM said that in the low-lying area, there has been a heavy pour and some parts of Bengaluru have been affected.
"So I am advising BMRC where all the construction dumps should be cleared...They (BJP) are there to do politics we are here to do development," Shivakumar said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he would visit the Tungabhadra Dam on Tuesday.
"I'm going to tungabhadra dam tomorrow. I'll also hold a meeting with officials to solve the problem that has occurred," Siddaramaiah said.
Earlier on Friday, one of the crest gates of the Tungabhadra reservoir was washed away after its chain link snapped.
