Patna (Bihar) [India], September 1 : Reiterating the party's demand for a nationwide caste census, Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Sanjay Yadav on Sunday, appealed party workers to visit every village and explain about the benefits of the exercise.
Addressing the party workers, Sanjay Yadav said, "When Tejashwi Yadav was the leader of the opposition in 2018 as well as in 2019, he demanded that the BJP should support them in the assembly and even now we are challenging the BJP to include Bihar's 65 per cent reservation increase in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution or clearly say that they cannot include it in the ninth schedule."
"RJD demands that the caste census should be conducted...I appeal to the workers of RJD to visit every village and explain to everyone the benefits of the caste census," he added.
Earlier in the day, Tejashwi Yadav reiterated the demand for a caste census and said it is important to find the condition of people from different castes and work for eradicating poverty.
He further alleged that the BJP wants the son of a garbage collector to keep on cleaning drain his entire life.
"Those who are beggars should be kept as beggars all their life. This is the mentality of the BJP...All the big socialist leaders, from time to time, talked about caste. The great men who were our leaders, all talked about reservation and talked about those sections which are at the bottom of the society, whether Dalit, tribal or backward," Yadav said.
"Even today, you will see that discrimination happens in society...Today when we talk of caste census, people say that we are trying to divide society...It should be found out what is the condition of people from different castes...Poverty is our enemy and we should work to remove it," he added.
RJD is holding a state-wide one-day sit-in protest with the demand for a nationwide caste census and the inclusion of the 65 per cent quota increase in Bihar in the ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
Tejashwi Yadav, who is the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, also participated in the protest from the party office on Beerchand Patel Path.
Responding to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's demand for a nationwide caste census and inclusion of 65 per cent quota increase in Bihar in the ninth Schedule of the Constitution, Rajya Sabha MP and Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Kumar Jha said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ensured caste census in Bihar.
"CM Nitish Kumar ensured that caste census took place in Bihar. He took all affirmative actions regarding the same. They (Opposition) are such kind of people who did not even provide reservation in Panchayats when they were in power," said MP Sanjay Kumar Jha.
