Mohali (Punjab) [India], October 26 : The Punjab Police on Thursday arrested Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Parambans Singh Bunty Romana for sharing a fake video purportedly showing Punjabi singer Kanwar Grewal singing a song using derogatory remarks against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
A case has been registered against the SAD leader under Sections 468, 469, 500 of the IPC and Sections 43 and 66 of the Information Technology Act at Mataur Police Station in Mohali.
Following his arrest, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal condemned the action by the Punjab Police and described it as a "political vendetta".
"Strongly condemn the political vendetta unleashed against the Shiromani Akali Dal by CM @BhagwantMann by arresting party general secretary Parambans Singh Romana on trumped up charges," Badal said in a post on 'X'.
"Aam Aadmi Party wants to suppress the voice of the opposition and deflect attention from the real issues of Punjabis & hide its failures. SAD will not be intimidated by such cowardly acts. The party extends wholehearted support to @ParambansRomana and will ensure the @AamAadmiParty 's anarchy fails and justice is done in the case," he added.
Meanwhile, a Shiromani Akali Dal delegation submitted a cyber crime complaint against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohali for uploading several morphed and defamatory videos from his official social media handle and demanded immediate action in the case.
The delegation had gathered at the SSP office to protest against the wrongful arrest of their party general secretary.
