New Delhi [India], January 24 : Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Friday lashed out at All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi over the latter's remarks, saying that it was his job to bring communalism everywhere. He accused Owaisi of trying to "disrupt" peace in areas of north east Delhi ahead of the assembly polls.
Dikshit, who is a Congress candidate from the New Delhi assembly constituency, said that the BJP also tried to incite communalism but it didn't work out in the national capital.
"It is his job to bring communalism everywhere. He just wants to disrupt the peaceful conduct during the times of elections in North East Delhi, Okhla and other places. BJP also tried to incite communalism, but it didn't work out in Delhi. He (Asaduddin Owaisi) is also afraid of Congress' victory in Delhi," Dikshit told ANI.
Owaisi on Thursday said that if Arvind Kejriwal can get bail and contest elections, then AIMIM candidate Shifa-Ur-Rehman can also contest and win elections from inside the jail. The AIMIM chief remarked this while he was campaigning for the party's candidate from Ohkla assembly constituency, Shifa-Ur-Rehman, who has been in jail for his alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case.
He further said that Rajiv Gandhi was the one who had come up with a plan to clean the Ganga river and only after that did the governments in Uttar Pradesh carry on with the work. Dikshit accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was responsible for the pollution in Yamuna.
"Rajiv Gandhi had come up with the Ganga Action Plan to clean the River Ganga in 1987-88. After that, all the governments in Uttar Pradesh kept working on it...Why was this question (Yamuna cleaning) not raised to date except for the last 5-6 months? During Sheila Dikshit's time, 7 interceptors were to be installed which would clean the water of Najafgarh and Shahdara drains...Arvind Kejriwal is directly responsible for the situation of River Yamuna. I don't think everything will be fine until the new government works rigorously to clean the Yamuna," Dikshit said.
This comes after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lashed out at Kejriwal over the alleged pollution in Yamuna. Yogi stated that he along with his state cabinet took a dip in the Sangam in Prayagraj earlier in the week and threw up a similar challenge to Kejriwal.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Fakhrul Hasan Chaand on Friday morning hit out atAdityanath over his criticism of Kejriwal, highlighting the pollution in the Gomati river in Lucknow. "Can one take a bath in Gomati? At one point, in many rivers of Uttar Pradesh, in Kanpur and Lucknow, fish couldn't survive. They (BJP) can't only ask questions, but cannot answer," Chaand told ANI.
