Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 2 : Follwing the arrest of the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Dr Sandip Ghosh on Monday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Union State Minister Sukanta Majumdar said that he had predicted the arrest of Dr Ghosh in the corruption case despite being doubtful of his arrest in the rape and murder case of the postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
In a video message posted on social media platform X, Majumder said, "The arrest was bound to happen and it was a demand of the people of Bengal... I already had doubted if the CBI could arrest Dr Sandip Ghosh in the matter of rape-murder due to the lack of evidence but in the case of corruption, Sandip Ghosh has been arrested, as I had predicted earlier."
He further thanked the CBI for respecting the demands of the people of Bengal.
"The main thing is that the people of Bengal wanted this arrest to happen and for respecting the demands of the people of Bengal, I thank the CBI," he added.
In the same post, the West Bengal BJP President took a dig at TMC stating that Ghosh was arrested despite the TMC government's efforts of destroying evidence in this case.
"Former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, has been arrested by CBI. Despite the TMC government's attempts to destroy evidence, his corruption and wrongdoings will soon be exposed. The people of Bengal deserve the truth, and this arrest is a crucial step towards it," he said.
On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI arrested Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, along with three others, over alleged corruption and financial misconduct at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, according to sources cited by ANI.
