New Delhi [India], May 25 : A supervisor of sanitary work at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, died due to COVID-19, according to the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA).
The deceased, Heera Lal, was posted as supervisor sanitary work at Rajkumari Amrit Kaur OPD, where the medical institute is providing healthcare aid to coronavirus-infected patients.
"AIIMS New Delhi: Another corona warrior sacrifices his life in service of the country. Heera Lal was supervising sanitary work during the COVID-19 pandemic. AIIMS has lost its proud warrior. The virus is dangerous, very communicable and doesn't spare anyone. Stay Safe," tweeted Srinivas T, General Secretary at the RDA, AIIMS.
"We are going to have a high-level meeting with the Director tomorrow on issues pertaining to the safety of healthcare workers at the institute," Srinivas T told ANI.
Kuldeep Dhigan, General Secretary of AIIMS SC/ST Employees Welfare Association alleged that Lal had gone for coronavirus testing himself but he was denied a test at AIIMS.
"When his condition worsened he was brought to the emergency. Later his COVID-19 test came positive. After two days of his COVID-19 test, he died. Had his coronavirus test been done timely, today Heera Lal would have been alive," he said.
Last week, a mess worker posted at the RPC canteen succumbed to COVID-19, the RDA stated. The cook died because the hostel section refused to take precautionary measures, the RDA alleged.
