Sanjay Singh bail: AAP says "truth always wins", BJP leader hits back

New Delhi [India], April 2 : After the Supreme Court granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) welcomed the court's decision, terming it a "victory of truth and justice." The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, hit back at the AAP, claiming that the bail order exposed the party's repeated accusations of "political vendetta" by central agencies.
"Today our party leader Sanjay Singh has got bail and today there is an atmosphere of happiness... It has been proved that truth may be delayed but truth is never defeated... I wish the party all the best," Delhi Mayor Shaili Oberoi said.
NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar said that Sanjay Singh was arrested and injustice was done to him.
"Sanjay Singh was arrested and injustice was done to him, he has been released, it is a good thing. Now the truth will come out in front of the country," he said.
Rishikesh Kumar, advocate of Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh, said that they wanted him to be released today but procedural things need to be completed.
"We wanted him to be released today but procedural things need to be completed...The Supreme Court order has not been uploaded yet. That order needs to be presented in the trial court...It appears that the procedure of submitting the surety will be completed tomorrow morning at 10 am," he added.
Congress leader Pawan Khera said, "If ED had any strong evidence it would have opposed the bail. It only shows that they did not have any strong evidence and he (Sanjay Singh) was kept behind bars without any reason..."
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court.
"I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court... This shows that the BJP is misusing the central agencies to suppress and politically arrest opposition leaders. Sanjay Singh has got bail and he can get involved in his party affairs also... Enforcement Directorate has knelt down before BJP... ED has been reduced to the Extortion Department and an Extended Department of the BJP," she added.
AAP party legal head Sanjeev Nasiar said that the party have been saying since the beginning that truth can be troubled, but not suppressed and defeated.
"When the argument was going on regarding the bail application in the court, then the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was asked some questions, but it did not provide any satisfactory reply....Subsequently, the court asked why he (Sanjay Singh) should not be granted bail? What are the objections? Since ED could not answer any of these questions posed by the court, therefore, they said that they have no objection, and their probe is also over...We have been saying since the beginning that truth can be troubled, but not suppressed and defeated," he said.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that, "this is good news. ED also did not oppose it...This is a very powerful & strong stand by the Supreme Court..."
Moreover, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, his wife, Anita Singh said, "This is 'Satyamev Jayate'. We have faith in the judiciary. I hope our three brothers, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain will also get relief from the court. I am going to complete the bail procedures..."
"This struggle is long and it will continue. Till our three brothers (Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain) are out, we are not celebrating. We thank the court...He (Sanjay Singh) will come tomorrow," Anita Singh said.
AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said that today's ay will be considered as a great milestone in the Indian democracy.
"Supreme Court's three-judge bench gave bail to Sanjay Singh...Where is the money trail in all this?," he said.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said, "Truth can be troubled but not defeated. I will say 'Satyameva Jayate.' I heartily welcome the decision of the court. I have a question in the context of law regarding the bail of Sanjay Singh... On the set of evidence, Sanjay Singh is granted bail, the same set of evidence is against Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia as well."
General Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) D. Raja said that this is a blow to the politics of vendetta persuaded by Union Government.
"It is a blow to the politics of vendetta persuaded by the Union Government...This will give the hope that others will also get bail and will be released. Truth will triumph and justice will prevail," he added.
Dr Farrukh Khan, counsel for Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Excise policy case said that the Supreme Court has accepted Sanjay Singh's bail petition today.
"Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi did the arguments for Sanjay Singh...He presented as to how Sanjay Singh was implicated...Sanjay Singh will be out soon after furnishing bail bonds," he added.
AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said that today God is with us, Bajrang Bali is with us, truth has won.
"Today God is with us, Bajrang Bali is with us, truth has won. We were saying from the beginning that this entire case is fake and has been written in the BJP office. Even after about 500 raids, not even a single penny was recovered. Today the Supreme Court also said, what is the point of keeping him in custody when no money trail is found," Priyanka Kakkar said.
The mother of Sanjay Singh said that his son is innocent.
"We are happy, we were waiting for this. We thank the Supreme Court. My son is innocent. He should not have been arrested but I am happy that he has got bail," Radhika Singh said.
Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said that the court is sending them to jail and the court is also giving them bail, but these anti-constitutional people have double character.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that this shows the independence of our judiciary.

"He got bail and the ED did not oppose it. This shows the independence of our judiciary...This is the speciality of our democracy. The courts are independent," he added.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said that this bail has been granted when ED has not opposed the bail of Sanjay Singh.
"This bail has been granted when ED has not opposed the bail of Sanjay Singh...From today onwards, the AAP cannot claim that any of the agencies particularly the ED or the CBI is indulging in any kind of vendetta politics," he added.
The Supreme Court granted bail to AAP leader Sanjay Singh in a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy irregularities case. The court order came after the ED chose not to oppose Sanjay Singh's bail plea.
A bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna directed the release of Sanjay Singh on bail during the pendency of trial in a money laundering case relating to excise policy irregularities.
The Enforcement Directorate informed the SC that the agency has no objection to Sanjay Singh getting bail.
The ED response came after the court sought to know from the investigating agency whether it needed further custody of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in the excise policy case.'
The court observed that Sanjay Singh had spent six months in jail.
The Supreme Court clarified that Sanjay Singh will be released on terms and conditions to be fixed by the trial court. The court also made it clear that concession shall not be cited as precedent. Meanwhile the court said that Sanjay Singh may continue with his political activities. In the meantime the top court disposed of the Sanjay Singh another plea challenging his arrest and remand in the case observing that it has become infructuous.
The top court was hearing AAP leader Sanjay Singh's plea against the Delhi High Court order refusing to grant him bail in the excise policy irregularities case.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh has approached the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court order refusing to grant him bail in connection with an excise policy irregularities case.
In his bail plea, Sanjay Singh has challenged the Delhi High Court order dated February 7, 2024. Sanjay Singh moved to the High Court when, on December 22, 2023, the trial court dismissed his bail.
Sanjay Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on October 4, 2023, in the case.'
According to ED, Sanjay Singh was alleged to be involved in creating a special purpose vehicle to launder the proceeds of crime that would have been generated from the business arising out of the policy changes as conspired by him and his co-conspirators.
ED had also stated that Sanjay Singh has been in possession of certain confidential documents pertaining to the investigation of this case that are not in the public domain.
Sanjay Singh in the Delhi High Court denied charges and said that he is guilty of any criminal wrongdoing or any violation of the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in any manner whatsoever and therefore, the applicant's life and liberty must be protected from unwarranted and unjustified encroachment at the hands of the Directorate of Enforcement on the basis of a false, malicious and motivated case without any merit.
