Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], July 11 : West Bengal Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari has written a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday, raising concerns over the "financial meltdown" and "joblessness" in the state.
In the letter, Adhikari warned that West Bengal is on the brink of a severe financial collapse, which has led to a "joblessness pandemic" across the state.
"After the derailment of industrialisation combined with 'dole politics' & 'vote bank politics' West Bengal is heading towards widespread financial meltdown. The State is in a joblessness pandemic," Suvendu Adhikari wrote in a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The BJP leader, in the letter stated that the fear is that the developmental & welfare funds meant for the people might get either unethically diverted, delayed, mismanaged or misappropriated to somehow delay the ensuing financial meltdown in the state.
Adhikari emphasized the need for rigorous financial oversight to prevent the misuse of funds. He called for close vigilance and scrutiny by the Centre to ensure that the state government is held accountable for its financial management.
"A very close financial vigilance and scrutiny is needed to be maintained in the public interest, so that the State Govt can be checked in their tracks before the misuse or squander the Funds," he further mentioned.
The BJP leader in a social media post on X mentioned that he met the Finance Minister to draw her attention towards the financial meltdown in the state.
"I met Hon'ble Union Finance Minister; Smt. @nsitharaman Ji and tried to draw her attention towards the prospect of intentional diversion & misappropriation of Developmental and Welfare funds by the West Bengal Government, as a desperate attempt to delay the ensuing financial meltdown in the state. I submitted a few documents to her in this regard," Adhikari wrote in a post on X.
