New Delhi [India], September 11 : Congress leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday hit back at Union Minister Amit Shah after he accused Rahul Gandhi of speaking about abolishing reservations.
Speaking to ANI, Khera said, "There is no anti-reservation agenda. On the contrary, Rahul Gandhi has said that we will increase the limit of reservations from 50 per cent. Is there a problem with it? Tell Amit Shah to publicly on record that he has a problem with increasing the reservation limit. We challenge him."
Further, he said if Rahul Gandhi has said anything anti-national, then Amit Shah should take action.
"If Rahul Gandhi has said anything anti-national, Amit Shah should take action. We challenge him. About Piyush Goyal's statement, I want to ask if these BJP people have ever heard about Ilhan Omar before this. If there is a problem in meeting them, they should write a letter to the State Department criticising the meeting and summon it," Khera said.
Earlier Amit Shah, citing Rahul Gandhi's latest speech in Washington DC said, "By speaking about abolishing reservations in the country, Rahul Gandhi has once again brought the Congress's anti-reservation face to the forefront. The thoughts that were in his mind eventually found their way out as words. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that as long as the BJP is there, neither can anyone abolish reservations nor can anyone mess with the nation's security,"
Meanwhile Congress' Gurdeep Singh Sappal defended the Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi's statement on the Sikh community and said that those who were hurt by his statement had perhaps not listened to the address properly.
"Those who seem hurt by Rahul Gandhi's statement, have perhaps not listened to his address. He joined the BJP but he doesn't know the history of RSS. The slogan of Hindi, Hindu and Hindustan was given by the RSS, not Congress. The project of 'One Nation, One Religion and One Flag' was RSS'. People of RSS want to decide what one eats or wears, not Congress. The Congress party provided freedom of religion for everyone in this country," Sappal said.
Further, he added that if the people in the country have the right to live freely, it has been because of Congress.
"If people can live freely today and if I have the right to wear things as a Sikh, it is all because of the Congress. If RSS had succeeded in 1950, they would have perhaps launched the Hindutva project. Rahul Gandhi had only said that the people are free in the country today due to the philosophy of Congress. He is right when he says that we have a threat from the RSS ideology. The people are now understanding the threat and putting forward Congress's philosophies," Sappal added.
