New Delhi [India], November 4 : Delhi Traffic Police ASI Pramod who was dragged on the bonnet of a car after trying to intercpet it in Ber Sarai on Tuesday desribed the harrowing incideint. ASI Pramod says that he sustained injuries on his head and back while his colleague Head Constable Shailesh was injured in the knees.
"In Ber Sarai, there's a blind turn right after the traffic signal, which is prone to accidents. This is why we were standing there, so we could nab anyone who jumped the signal. Head Constable Shailesh was there with me on duty, and he tried to stop the car by showing the light bar. They stopped the car but when we asked for their license, they tried to speed. To save Shailesh, I came in front of the car, and at the same time, they started speeding. We kept shouting at them to stop the car but they didn't stop. Even an auto driver tried to stop them but they didn't stop... They dragged us for 20 meters. I have injuries on my head and back, and Shailesh has sustained injuries on his knee," ASI Pramod said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have apprehended two minors for allegedly dragging two Traffic Police personnel on the bonnet of their car near Ber Sarai Market Road in Delhi.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South West Delhi Surendra Choudhary on said that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the accused in this case under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 221, and 132 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Two minors who were driving the car have been apprehended, the DCP said.
"An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and head constable were posted in our district's Kishangarh Police station area at the Ber Sarai red light on November 2 and they spotted a car that jumped the red light and they tried to stop it. However, the car didn't stop and dragged both of them for 20 meters. They sustained injuries because of it. After this, we filed an FIR under sections 109, 221, and 132 of BNS. We traced the owner of the car who was identified as Jai Bhagwan. His son and another boy, both minors, have been apprehended," Surendra Choudhary, DCP, South West Delhi told ANI.
The car jumped the red light and dragged the two traffic police officers on duty for 20 meters after they tried to stop it, the DCP said, adding that the owner of the vehicle will also be prosecuted in this case.
"The car jumped the red light and when our staff tried to stop it they hit them and dragged them. The staff is alright now but there was a clear intention to kill given how the car dragged them for 20 meters and we have registered a case invoking section 109 (attempt to murder). As per the law, the owner of the car shouldn't have given the car to the minor. Naturally, the owner will also be prosecuted in this case," DCP Choudhary said.
The police have taken action against the owner of the car under the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. According to the police, the incident took place on November 2.
The incident has been classified as a serious offence, with the traffic police alleging an attempt on their lives due to the reckless actions of the driver, the police said.
