New Delhi [India], May 2 : Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that the BJP has put the Delhi CM in "jail forcefully" for the last 40 days.
"They (BJP) have put Delhi CM and my husband in jail forcefully, for the last 40 days. They say that the investigation is going on, if investigations goes on for 10 years, will they keep him in jail for 10 years? It's clearly a dictatorship. He is well read, patriotic and truthful person. For the sake of social service, he left his job and went to the slums to work for them. When we got married, he asked me just one question, I want to do social service, won't you have any issue with that?. They have put this kind of people in jail," the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.
Sunita Kejriwal was standing through the sunroof of a vehicle and greeted voters in Botad, Gujarat with folded hands.
Sunita Kejriwal did a roadshow in support of the party's Lok Sabha candidate Umesh bhai Makwana from Bhavnagar as part of the party's ongoing campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier on April 25, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea against his arrest and said that he did not cooperate with the central agency despite multiple summons issued to him.
On April 9, the High Court dismissed his plea for release from jail and rejected his argument of political vendetta amid the looming Lok Sabha elections.
The High Court had said that Kejriwal's absence from nine ED summons over six months undermined any claims of special privilege as Chief Minister, suggesting his arrest was an inevitable consequence of his non-cooperation.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering probe relating to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22.
Voting for 25 out of 26 seats in Gujarat will take place in the third phase of the ongoing general elections on May 7.
Voting will not take place in Surat as Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Mukesh Dalal was declared elected unopposed last week after Congress' Nilesh Kumbhani's nomination was rejected while other candidates withdrew from the contest. The results will be announced on June 4.
