Three workers lost their lives while cleaning abandoned well in Tripura's Melaghar

Sipahijala (Tripura) [India], June 8 : Three workers lost their lives while cleaning an abandoned well in Netramura JB School in Melaghar, located in Sipahijala district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Shukura Mani Murasing, Shambhu Kumar Debbarma, and Ashok Kumar Tripura.
The tragic incident took place at around 2:00 pm when the workers descended into the neglected well, which had not been cleaned for a prolonged period. The headmaster of the Netramura JB School had initiated the cleaning project and assigned the task to the local workers.
Despite the workers' efforts, there was no response from them for a significant amount of time. This raised concerns among the local residents, who promptly alerted the Melaghar Fire Department. Firefighters rushed to the scene and, after a strenuous three-hour rescue operation, retrieved the bodies of the three workers from the well.
The bodies were subsequently taken to Melaghar Hospital and post-mortem has been done.
Debasish Das, the officer in charge of Melaghar Police Station confirmed the matter while talking to ANI, and informed that a case is registered with Melaghar Police Station under Section 174 CrPC.
The deceased workers were residents of the Neoramura area, where the abandoned well was once a crucial water source for the community.
