Sep 24, 2023
New Delhi [India], September 24 : In his address at the concluding session of the 'International Lawyers Conference 2023', Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the timing of the conference is appropriate as the Constitution of the country will soon complete 75 years and parliament will be transforming three major laws of the Criminal Justice System.
Shah also talked about steps taken in accordance with the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for women-led development in the G20 summit. He said that India has begun 33pc participation of women in the law-making process in the Lok Sabha and in Vidhan Sabhas.
"We have sanctioned a budgetary allocation of Rs 7000 cr for the launch of the third phase of the eCourts project. This will ensure Ease of Justice and further improve the justice delivery system," he said.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had inaugurated the ‘International Lawyers Conference 2023’ in New Delhi on Saturday.
"This conference is held at a very important and appropriate time... Because this is the year when our Constitution will complete 75 years. This is the year in which the Parliament is going to transform the three main laws of the Criminal Justice System. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about women-led development in the G20 and placed it in front of the world. To fulfil this, India has started 33pc participation of women in the law-making process in the Lok Sabha and in Vidhan Sabhas," said Shah.
Further talking about changes being made in some of the laws, Shah stressed that no law is ultimate and changes need to be made for better implementation of laws.
"Whether it is GST or the Insolvency Act, the changes being made in these are because of the errors faced after their implementation. It is important for any government or a law-making agency to admit that any law is not in its final form. Changes should be made according to the issues that come up over time after their implementation because the goal of making a law is to establish a smooth system, not to establish the supremacy of the lawmakers and so I think these changes will make laws more relevant," said Amit Shah.
The two-day International Lawyers’ Conference 2023 is being organised by the Bar Council of India on the theme 'Emerging Challenges in Justice Delivery System'.
The conference aims to serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue and discussion on various legal topics of national and international importance, foster the exchange of ideas and experiences, and strengthen international cooperation and understanding of legal issues.
The conference, which is being organized for the first time in the country, discusses topics such as emerging legal trends, challenges in cross-border litigation, legal technology and environmental law.
The programme witnessed the participation of distinguished judges, legal professionals, and leaders of the global legal fraternity.
