Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee files nomination for RS bypolls

gartala (Tripura) [India], August 21 : Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-elections in Tripura on Wednesday.
The filing was done in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha along with other MLAs and NDA members at the State Election Commission.
Speaking on his nomination, Bhattacharjee said, "The Rajya Sabha by-election is going to be held on 3rd September. So, my name has been nominated by the BJP for Rajya Sabha and I have filed my nomination today. I thank our country's PM Narendra Modi, our national president JP Nadda and our Home Minister Amit Shah for giving a chance to an ordinary worker like me... I also appeal to the MLAs of the opposition party to give me a chance once on the issue of the development of Tripura."
Taking to social media site X, Chief Minister Manik Saha said, "Hon'ble Ministers, MLAs, and NDA partners stand together as Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee, State President, BJP-Tripura Pradesh, files his nomination for Rajya Sabha By-Poll. Wishing him a successful journey ahead."
Earlier, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tripura State Committee had decided to field former MLA Sudhan Das for the by-election from Tripura.
In a press release, CPI (M) Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said, "Communist Party of India (Marxist), Tripura State Committee has decided to field former MLA Sudhan Das (64) to the By-Election of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) from Tripura for which election is scheduled on the 3rd day of September 2024."
"Das is one of the members of CPI(M), Tripura State Secretariat, a prominent Dalit leader, General Secretary of Tripura Tapashili Jati Samanyaya Samiti and was 6 (six) times MLA from Rajnagar (SC) Assembly Constituency, South Tripura," the press release added.
The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Biplab Kumar Deb, who contested from the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat and secured a victory in the 2024 general elections.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced September 3 as the date for elections for 12 vacant seats in Rajya Sabha. As per the ECI, the last date for making notification is August 21, and the scrutiny of nominations will be held on August 22.
The last date of withdrawal of candidatures for Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tripura is August 26 and for Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Telangana and Odisha, the date is August 27.
The polling is scheduled to be held on September 3, with counting to be done on the same day. There are two vacant seats in Assam, two in Bihar, one in Haryana, one in MP, two in Maharashtra, one in Rajasthan, one in Tripura, one in Telangana and one in Odisha.
