Agartala (Tripura) [India], August 7 : Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha praised the quality of handloom products produced in Purbasha on National Handloom Day, stating that they are very good and usable and urging the public to support local artisans and handicrafts.
Chief Minister Saha emphasised the need to purchase products produced by self-help groups and related organisations.
While interacting with the media, Saha mentioned that August 7 is significant as it is part of the Swadeshi movement.
He recalled that Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, called for the Swadeshi movement on this day.
"Keeping this in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the initiative to celebrate this day as National Handloom Day in 2015. 'Vocal for local,' meaning the products we produce that we use, has been a longstanding custom. Today, on the occasion of National Handloom Day, I visited Purbasha in Agartala. I have been here a few times before and saw many things today," he said.
Apart from celebrating this special day, the Chief Minister appealed to the people of the state to visit Purbasha and buy handicrafts on other days as well.
Saha emphasised purchasing products produced by self-help groups and related organisations, reiterating that the quality of handloom products produced in Purbasha is very good and usable.
During his visit to Purbasha, Saha was accompanied by Purbasha Chairman and MLA Kishore Barman, along with other officials. The Chief Minister inspected various products produced there.
Purbasha is a Tripura Government Handicraft Emporium that sells products made by local artisans from Tripura. The sales directly benefit these artisans, promoting the state's traditional crafts.
