Unprecedented rains in "past 30 years" leaves Khammam flooded, Govt gets relief work underway

Khammam (Telangana) [India], September 2 : Unprecedented widespread rainfall for the past couple of days has caused great deal of difficulty to the people to the people of Khammam district.
Khammam District Collector Muzammil Khan has described the floods as "unprecedented" and one that was not witnessed in the region for the last 30 years
"We are experiencing severe floods in our district unlike in the past 30 years because of the 200mm rains. I appreciate all the work taken up by the officials, public representatives and others over the past 2 days. We could save many lives because of this," said Muzammil Khan while speaking to ANI.
"Now, we are going forward with making the required necessities and rehabilitation centres. We will also focus on health camps, availability of food grains, elderly and handicapped people. All the people should be alert. We have faced an unprecedented floods and many problems with it. I assure that all the necessities will be provided by the government," Muzammil Khan added
Due to heavy rains, the water level of the Munneru River has increased in Prakash Nagar, Khammam. Visuals showed water breaching the banks and submerging the residential areas.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will also inspect the flood affected areas in Khammam on Monday after having a meeting on the damage caused by the rain, flood relief measures at the Integrated Command Control Centre in Hyderabad on Monday morning.
In a post on X, the CM also shared the details of ordered given by him to the officials following relief and rescue operation.
"A call center should be set up in the collectorates and linked with the command control center. Police battalions should be trained on NDRF model for emergency services during heavy rains. 5 lakh financial assistance to the families of those who died due to floods," read the post.
"Compensation should be increased for cattle, goats and sheep that died in floods. A comprehensive report on the flood damage should be given to the Centre. Write a letter seeking central assistance immediately. A letter should be written asking the center to consider it as a national calamity. Rs. 5 crore for immediate assistance to the collectors of the affected districts Khammam, Bhadradri Kota Gudem, Mahbubabad and Suryapet," added the post.
