UP: Enforcement agencies seize liquor, drugs, cash worth Rs 322 crore during poll campaigns

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 26 : Law enforcement agencies including the Excise, Income Tax, Police, and Narcotics Department seized, from March 1 to April 25, a total of Rs 32,281.70 lakh (322.817 Crores) worth of liquor, drugs, precious metals, and cash, among other items in Uttar Pradesh, said Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Navdeep Rinwa on Friday.
He said that on Thursday, the agencies recovered Rs 127.51 lakh worth of liquor, drugs, and cash from the state.
Rinwa said that the Excise, Income Tax, Police, Narcotics Department, and other enforcement agencies in the state are taking continuous actions.
In this regard, on Thursday, April 25, liquor, drugs, and cash worth Rs 127.51 lakh were seized.
This includes Rs 13.93 lakh in cash, 18,628.60 litres of liquor valued at Rs 49.95 lakh, 193,367.70 grams of drugs valued at Rs 63.62 lakh, and other materials valued at Rs 0.01 lakh.
In a major seizure on April 25, 1,52,000 grams of drug worth Rs 38 lakh was seized in the Marihan assembly constituency of Mirzapur district.
He further mentioned that from March 1 to April 25, a total of Rs 32,281.70 lakh worth of liquor, drugs, precious metals, and cash have been seized, including Rs 3,181.54 lakh in cash, Rs 4,435.47 lakh worth of liquor, Rs 21,346.72 lakh worth of drugs, Rs 2,161.59 lakh worth of precious metals, and Rs 1,156.39 lakh worth of other materials.
It is known that along with the announcement of the election dates for the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 by the Election Commission on March 16, 2024, the Model Code of Conduct is effectively implemented throughout the state to conduct free, fair, peaceful, fearless, inclusive, and secure voting in the entire state.
