Rampur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 10 : The Rampur district administration on Thursday took back more than 70.05 hectares of land from Mohammad Ali Jauhar University run by Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar Trust headed by Samajwadi party MP Azam Khan.
This comes as the Allahabad High Court on Monday dismissed a petition against proceedings to take over the university land initiated by the Uttar Pradesh Government for non-adherence to certain conditions on which the land for the institution was granted to the Trust in 2005.
Presently Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Khan are lodged at Sitapur district jail and are facing several cases.
The Tehsil team reached the university on Thursday and evicted the Trust along with the land. The Trust runs the university and Azam Khan is its president, while his wife Tanzeen Fathima is the secretary.
Pramod Kumar, Tehsildar, Sadar, told ANI, "Rampur district administration took back more than 70 hectares of land from Jauhar University yesterday for which an appeal was made in the high court. This appeal was rejected by the high court following which officials came here for possession and interference."

"The Vice-Chancellor was asked to sign the eviction documents but he refused to intervene. So as per the legal procedure, the action of eviction of land was taken in the presence of two witnesses and the police," he added.
