Sep 09, 2023

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 9 : Samajwadi Party workers celebrated for the second day the opposition INDIA alliance's win in the Ghosi bye-election on Friday. The party workers celebrated by feeding sweets to each other and shouting slogans.
The bypoll in Ghosi was necessitated after Dara Singh Chauhan, who had won the seat in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls as Samajwadi Party candidate, came back to the BJP. The Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh won by a big margin of 42,759 votes.
Samajwadi Party leaders and workers reasoned that they could not celebrate adequately on Friday as they were not present in the district.
State Secretary of Samajwadi Party Awadhesh Yadav said that the Ghosi Assembly by-election was made a prestige battle by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the people have answered them.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has turned this Ghosi bye-election into a prestige battle. The entire state government came here... The Chief Minister also held a meeting here," Awadhesh Yadav told ANI.
"…People taught them a lesson. In the coming times, those who switched parties will be taught a lesson. Those who thought the INDIA alliance to be a joke, the elections have shown that there exists a 20 per cent gap between INDIA and NDA. INDIA alliance has given a message to the state and the country. Our workers have got a boost and this will stimulate them for the 2024 elections," he claimed.
Samajwadi Party District President Brijesh Gautam also said that the INDIA alliance has made a good start.
"INDIA made a good start, this will give a boost to the 2024 elections," he said.
Slamming Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, he said, "Om Prakash Rajbhar used to comment now and then. The Yadavs have given them an answer. Ghosi has answered you (Rajbhar)."
On Dara Singh Chouhan's defeat, he said, "Dara Singh Chouhan has left no party." Chauhan has changed parties five times till now and is presently with the BJP.
"This election has set such a precedent that in the next crucial election in 2024 to save the Constitution and democracy…We will win all 80 seats and wipe out the BJP," Gautam claimed.
Earlier, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav congratulated party candidate Sudhakar Singh for his performance in Ghosi assembly bypoll.
He said it is a "victory" of the INDIA bloc and the momentum will continue in the Lok Sabha elections.
