Uttarakhand: CM Dhami announces Rs 100 cr allocation for police housing

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], October 22 : On the occasion of Police Smriti Diwas, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that an amount of Rs 100 crore will be allocated in the coming financial year for the construction of residential buildings for police personnel, Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Office said.
Police Smriti Diwas is observed on October 21, commemorating the sacrifice of 10 brave policemen who lost their lives in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh in 1959.
On Monday, Chief Minister Dhami paid tribute to the personnel of the police and paramilitary forces by offering floral wreaths at the Shaheed Smarak on the occasion of Police Smriti Diwas at Police Line, Dehradun.
Chief Minister Dhami also announced an increase in allowances for the Uttarakhand Police Department: the nutritious diet allowance will go up by Rs 100, the uniform allowance for Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors will increase by Rs 3,500, and the high altitude allowance for Police and SDRF personnel stationed above 9,000 feet will be increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day, the CMO said.
Addressing the people on the occasion of Police Smriti Diwas, Chief Minister Dhami said that the responsibility of maintaining the internal security and law and order of the country lies with the police forces and paramilitary forces of the states. In the last year, a total of 216 paramilitary forces and police personnel of various states were killed in the line of duty in the whole of India, in which four brave sons of Uttarakhand Police have sacrificed their lives, as per the CMO.
"He said that the National Police Memorial has been established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is a symbol of the unique dedication and sacrifice of our police force. In the last few years, our police has faced many challenges. Our police has shown indomitable courage and valor in complex situations related to terrorism, Naxalism in various areas of the country, natural disasters, law and order," the Uttarakhand CMO stated.
"Chief Minister Dhami said that Uttarakhand is a very sensitive and important state for the security of the nation in view of its geographical and strategic importance. The role of our police becomes even more important in maintaining peace and security in the state. The police system of any state is an integral pillar of the security and prosperity of that state. The state police also faces many challenges like drug abuse, cybercrime, crime against women, traffic system, Chardham Yatra, disaster, landslide, Kanwad Yatra management to maintain the spirit of service and law and order," as per the Uttarakhand CMO.
"Chief Minister Dhami said that the target has been set to make Devbhoomi Uttarakhand drug-free by 2025. For this, a three-tier anti-narcotics force has been formed under the Uttarakhand Police. This year, while taking action against more than 1100 drug dealers, narcotics worth about Rs 23 crore have also been recovered," the Uttarakhand CMO stated.
He said that cybercrime has become a big threat. The police will have to be alert in this direction as well and will have to be more technically efficient. To provide a safe environment to women in the state, 'QRT' has been formed under the "Women Help Desk" at every police station in the state. More than 95 per cent of the crimes against children and women have been solved and action has been taken against more than 50 per cent of the accused. For which Uttarakhand Police deserves congratulations, as per the Uttarakhand CMO.
"The Chief Minister said that to improve the residential level of police personnel, 380 houses have been constructed at a cost of more than 150 crore. In the financial year 2023-24, construction work of administrative buildings of five police stations, two police posts, two fire stations and three police lines is being done at a cost of 42 crore," as per the Uttarakhand CMO.
Approval has been given for the purchase of 1105 police vehicles to improve the response time of the police. Under the Police Salary Package, accident insurance of Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore is being done for the police personnel, under which an amount of more than Rs 15 crore has been provided to the families of the deceased police personnel. In the field of disaster and relief, 162 posts were created by the government by approving a company of SDRF. 327 posts were sanctioned for the functioning of six police stations and 21 police posts, 11 new posts were created in the framework of PPS, the Uttarakhand CMO stated.
Recruitment has been announced for 222 posts of sub-inspector level and the process of recruitment of 2000 constables is underway. For the promotion of talented players in the state, recruitments will also be made in the police department in the skilled player quota under the Uttarakhand Sports Policy, the Uttarakhand CMO said.
