Uttarakhand: CM Dhami reviews disaster management, rehabilitation works with senior officials

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], August 29 : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday reviewed the work related to disaster management and rehabilitation with senior officials of the government and all the District Magistrates of the state through video conferencing at the Secretariat, an official release said.
Pushkar Singh Dhami received information from all the District Magistrates about the damage caused by heavy rains in the districts and the relief and rescue operations. He directed the District Magistrate of Uttarkashi to seek cooperation from IIT Roorkee and THDC for technical study of the Varunavat landslide area and said that cognizance of the studies done earlier in this regard should also be taken so that effective arrangements for the treatment of the landslide zone are ensured. He also directed to expedite the work of treatment and expansion of the areas around Jankichatti, according to the official release.
Chief Minister Dhami asked all the District Magistrates to prepare a list of landslide areas and start the tender process without delay to work speedily on road repair and other reconstruction schemes as soon as the rains end. Along with the repair of the Chardham Yatra route, he also instructed that the landslide-affected areas and the condition of rainfall should also be studied by technical institutions. He instructed that full attention should be paid to the reconstruction work being done in the disaster-affected areas.
He emphasized developing a warning system related to landslides and facing the challenges of disaster with mutual coordination. He said that by increasing the limit of funds in the disaster head, construction work will be done in a better way. The Chief Minister also said that there should be no shortage of funds for the assistance of disaster victims and reconstruction work.
In the meeting, Dhami asked to pay attention to the development works so that it is should not affected due to disaster. He also said that there is a need to study the situation of the accumulation of large amounts of water and the creation of flood situations in the areas of Sitarangaj Tanakpur Banbasa and Terai Bhabar on 7-8 July after decades. He also instructed us to make the water drainage system and drainage system more effective.
He praised the efforts of the District Magistrates for relief and rescue operations during the disaster in the state and asked to improve its response time. He said that it is our responsibility to help the disaster victims immediately. We cannot stop the disaster, but we can reduce its impact by helping the victims.
The Chief Minister asked the District Magistrates to prepare a report on tree plantation and also provide information about the status of Amrit Sarovars. It should also be ensured that all the work is visible on the ground. He said that given the possibility of heavy rains in September also, all the officers should remain alert and directed to prepare an effective action plan to prevent diseases occurring after the rains, the release reads.
Secretary of Disaster Management Mr. Vinod Kumar Suman gave detailed information about the disaster situation in the state, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction works through a presentation. He said that the increase in the amount in the disaster head will help in repairing damaged properties, and residential buildings, streamlining basic services and also rebuilding large schemes.
