Uttarakhand folk festival Igas celebrated at CM Dhami's residence

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], November 12 : The folk festival Igas was celebrated at Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's residence. The CM prayed for peace and prosperity in the state by offering prayers and reciting Sundarkand.
CM Dhami also played Bhelo and worshipped the same on the occasion of the Igas festival. During this, he also played Dhol Damau. Wishing all the people of the state on Igas, the Chief Minister said, "We have to take our folk traditions and folk culture forward. Today the whole state is celebrating Igas with great pomp and show."
Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his affection for Uttarakhand and its culture. "PM Modi has also wished all the people of the state on the occasion of Igas. The Prime Minister has a special attachment to Uttarakhand that he participated in the Igas festival. PM Modi has always promoted the folk festivals and culture of Uttarakhand."
Calling the folk culture and tradition "identity of Devbhoomi", Chief Minister Dhami said, "The festival of Igas is very special for us. To make this folk festival reach the people, the tradition of public holidays has also been started in the last few years. In the recently held Pravasi Uttarakhandi Sammelan, he had also requested the migrant Uttarakhand residents to go to their villages and celebrate the folk festival."
The Chief Minister said that on the State Foundation Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address had requested the people of Uttarakhand to preserve their dialect and connect with the village. "On the occasion of the Igas festival, we have to take a pledge to connect with our village and preserve the language and folk festivals," he added.
Earlier on Monday, PM Modi celebrated the Igas Bagwal festival at the residence of BJP MP Anil Banuli in New Delhi.
PM Modi was wearing a traditional Uttarakhand cap and greeted with Sadhus and Saints present at the residence of Baluni.
PM Modi worshipped the Tulsi plant, lit the Igas flame and performed Aarti.
Igal Bagwal festival is widely celebrated in Uttarakhand, after 11 days of Diwali. It is also called Budhi Diwali.
Igaas festival honours the Goddess Nanda Devi and celebrates harvest, fertility, and prosperity.
