Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 24 : Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit said on Wednesday that Chandrayaan-3's successful soft landing on the moon's surface is "a very proud and historic moment for India".
"It is a very proud and historic moment for India as we are the fourth country in the world to have landed spacecraft on the Moon and the first to have landed in the south pole of the moon," Banwari Lal Purohit said while talking to the media soon after the Chandrayaan-3's lander module Vikram soft-landed on the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023, from Satish Dhawan Space Centre Second Launch Pad in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
On Wednesday evening, the spacecraft’s Vikram lander made the soft landing at 6.04 PM (IST), four years after the crash-landing of the Chandrayaan-2 lander. With this mission, India has now joined the US, Russia and China as the only countries to successfully land a spacecraft on the lunar surface.
