Viluppuram (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 10 : Anniyur Siva, a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate from the Vikravandi assembly, on Wednesday arrived at the booth in the Vikravandi constituency to cast his vote and expressed confidence of winning the by-polls.
"I have cast my vote now and I am confident that I will win the Vikravandi assembly by-polls with huge margins. I appeal to all voters to cast their votes and exercise their democratic rights", Siva said while speaking to ANI.
The by-polls on the Vikravandi assembly constituency, which began today at 7 a.m. will conclude at 6 p.m.
The by-poll was necessitated by the demise of DMK MLA Pugazhenthi (71) in April this year.
The Vikravandi constituency is predominantly Vanniyars, followed by Dalits and other intermediate castes. It is facing its second by-election in the last five years.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, which faced a defeat in the recent Parliamentary polls, is keen to open its account in the state with the Vikravandi by-poll.
Assembly by-polls are being held in West Bengal's Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda, and Maniktala; Badrinath and Manglaur in Uttarakhand; Jalandhar West in Punjab; Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh; Rupauli in Bihar; Vikravandi in Tamil Nadu; and Amarwara in Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier, DMK Chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister appealed to people to vote for Anniyur Siva.
Releasing a video on X on July 5, the DMK chief said, "Mr Siva is contesting in Vikravandi constituency as a candidate of arivalayam who will take Tamil Nadu on the path of progress due to his achievements. Vote for Anyyur Siva on the rising sun symbol and make him win!"
