VP Jadeep Dhankhar criticises Kapil Sibal for his 'symptomatic malaise" remark on RG Kar rape and murder

New Delhi [India], September 1 : Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar launched a fresh criticism of Rajya Sabha MP and Supreme Court advocate Kapil Sibal on Sunday over his 'symptomatic malaise' remarks.
"When humanity has been shamed, there are some stray voices, voices that cause concern. They only aggravate our excruciating pain. To put it mildly, they are adding salt to our injured conscience," the Vice President said.
The Vice President said at a public event that someone who is a member of parliament and an advocate said that the Kolkata incident was a 'symptomatic malaise' and suggested that such incidents are frequent indecent.
"What do they say? "it is a symptomatic malaise, a frequent incident," he said.
The remark was aimed at Kapil Sibal, who was representing the Mamata Banerjee government in the RG Kar rape and murder case.
"When it comes from someone who is a Member of Parliament, a senior advocate, then the culpability is of extreme degree. There can be no alibi for such kind of demonizing thoughts. I call upon such misguided souls to revisit their thoughts and publicly tender an apology. This is not an occasion where you should be looking through political prism. This political prism is a dangerous one, it kills your objectivity. It calls for searching within," Vice President Dhankhar added.
He termed the RG Kar incident 'barbarity expressed in extremity', adding that it has shamed humanity.
"What happened on August 9, 2024, was not just an incident. It was barbarity expressed in extremity, shaming humanity. The victim happened to be from a category that is ever devoted to saving lives", he added.
He stated to bring revolutionary, secure, systematic mechanisms to save the health sector from any kind of threat.
"We have to bring about revolutionary secure systematic mechanisms such that never in future will there be any kind of threat to the health sector that is in service of humanity," the Rajya Sabha Chairman said.
Earlier on Friday, August 30 coming down heavily on Kapil Sibal, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he was pained that someone holding a position in the Supreme Court Bar, a Member of Parliament, can term such acts of violence against women as "a symptomatic malaise".
