Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 22 : Hours after the Superintendent of Police of Golaghat district of Assam allegedly misused his power for his benefits in Kaziranga National Park, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state does not "endorse arrogance".
Taking to X, the Assam CM cautioned the officials to remain humble in their thoughts and actions.
"I spoke to the Director General of Police, Assam GP Singh regarding the incident involving the Superintendent of Police, Golaghat. We do not endorse arrogance, and it is important for public servants to remain humble in their thoughts and actions," the Assam wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
According to the reports, the Golaghat SP was accused of misusing his power for personal benefits and threatened a forest official deployed in Kaziranga National Park.
According to the reports, on Thursday, the Golaghat SP demanded tickets for his family members for an elephant safari ride in the national park, however, the forest official failed to provide tickets for the elephant safari to them due to the unavailability of tickets.
Due to that reason, the Golaghat SP allegedly misused his power and the forest official was detained by the Kohora police outpost.
The forest official identified as Tarun Gogoi who is Forester Grade-I told the media that - "The in-charge of Kohora police outpost called me and told me that, kindly talked with the SP and informed him that it is not possible to provide elephant safari tickets. I called the SP and informed him that it was not possible as all the tickets had been sold out and requested the SP to book it for the next day."
Tarun Gogoi further said that, soon after the SP called back him and threatened him by using slang words.
"If we arrest you in a case and say that police will not release you tomorrow but the next day.....will that work.... later the SP disconnected the call," forest official Tarun Gogoi said.
"Now at 3-26 am, police conducted medical and I was still at the police outpost. Our DFO sir came here and inquired about it and he told me that don't worry. I am dedicatedly working my job," Tarun Gogoi said.
Meanwhile, Assam DGP GP Singh said, "I've been made aware of the last evening's undue detention of Tarun Gogoi of Assam Forest by Golaghat police. I have spoken with Gogoi and conveyed my regret as DGP Assam police, SP Golaghat has also been suitably advised. Our aim remains courteous behaviour with fellow citizens. I have also conveyed my sincere apologies to the Hon CM Assam for the anguish caused to him and the Government. Apologies to the people of Assam with a commitment to improve further."
