Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], February 28 : West Bengal Congress leader Koustav Bagchi tendered his resignation from the party on Wednesday asserting that the party is in a 'self destructive mode' and is more interested in seeing the "Trinamool Congress as its West Bengal Unit".
Miffed by the Congress over turning a blind eye towards the recent scenario in West Bengal, the Congress leader stated that the party seems to have shifted its focus from winning the elections, and rather seems to prioritize image branding.
In a letter to West Bengal Congress President, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, Bagchi wrote "owing to the recent political decisions, it seems that the party has chosen to enter into a 'self- destructive mode'. When the elections are knocking at the door, the focus of the Congress Party does not seem to be winning elections but the image-branding of a particular individual."
"With regard to the State of West Bengal, the party does not seem to acknowledge the existence of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee but on the contrary, has accepted the Trinamool Congress as its outfit in the State of West Bengal." Bagchi wrote.
He expressed his decision to resign as a Primary Member of the Indian National Congress and from the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, emphasizing that remaining a part of the Congress would compromise his self-respect.
"Without hesitation I can firmly say that in the present day scenario, the Indian National Congress has lost its political character. Still being a part of the Indian National Congress would be nothing but a compromise with one's self-respect, which I choose not to. I hereby tender my resignation as a Primary Member of the Indian National Congress and also from the membership of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect," Bagchi stated in the letter.
