"West Bengal govt not capable, wants to help accused": Congress leaders criticize Mamata Banerjee over trainee doctor's murder

New Delhi [India], August 13 : Targeting the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal over the death of a female trainee doctor, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury criticized the state administration for its handling of the case.
He said, "It is condemnable. The state government should take action but remains in a dilemma. The law and order situation is worsening. The state government is not capable and seems intent on helping the accused."
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury also reacted to the incident, emphasizing that such events should not occur and that doctors must be ensured safety.
"This shouldn't have happened. If a doctor is not safe while performing their duties inside a hospital, it will lead to protests. The expectations of common people should not be shattered. I stand with the doctors. Mamata Banerjee has stated that if the culprits are not arrested by Sunday, a CBI inquiry will be conducted. Doctors must be protected," she said.
On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI investigation into the sexual assault and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The Court directed the Kolkata Police to hand over all relevant documents to the CBI immediately.

Earlier, The Calcutta High Court asked the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh to submit a leave application. This comes after Ghosh's appointment as principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata immediately after his resignation from RG Kar College triggered protests.
The Chief Justice division bench of the Calcutta HC was considering several PILs in the matter on Tuesday.
The post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. An investigation confirmed rape and murder. The deceased's body showed signs of a struggle, including scratch marks. The family has alleged that the victim was raped and murdered.
