West Bengal: People protest against BJP candidate from Ghatal Hiran Chatterjee

Ghatal (West Bengal) [India], May 25 : BJP candidate from Ghatal Lok Sabha seat Hiran Chatterjee was stopped by a group of protestors in the area coming under Paschim Medinipur district.
Chatterjee has been in the field since the morning visiting different booths in the state.
Hiran Chatterjee told ANI, "Our party workers were bombed throughout the night by the police officers. They are not letting any polling agents sit (at the polling station). The Police work with TMC. Police, central force & TMC are trying to defeat me. But we have full faith in the voters."
Responding to the situation, DS Grewal, DIG, CRPF said, "We are present at the spot and looking at the situation."
The protesters lit a fire in the middle of the road to stop the BJP candidates' convoy.
Sitting MP Deepak Adhikari from TMC and Tapan Ganguly from CPI are against the BJP candidate Hiran Chatterjee in the Ghatal constituency.
In the 2019 elections, TMC candidate Adhikari Deepak emerged victorious from the seat gathering 7,17,959 of votes.
Earlier, West Bengal police stopped the convoy of BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Medinipur, Agnimitra Paul at Kismat Angua in Bonpura village.
Earlier West Bengal leader of the opposition had said that there were scattered reports of intimidation from some booths but the BJp had ensured security for its candidates and cadre.
"Scattered reports of intimidation and removal of BJP's Polling agents have reached us from early morning but be rest assured BJP has ensured tight security in almost 90% of the important booths this time. Don't wait out and do vote in large numbers," he said.
Meanwhile, West Bengal recorded a high voter turnout at 36.88 per cent till 11 am on Saturday in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections, as per the data provided by the Election Commission.
The approximate voter turnout across the country at 11 am was 25.76 per cent.
