New Delhi [India], October 7 : Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo on Saturday informed that a caste-based census will be carried out in the state adding that the government is unaware of the economic levels of the various categories in the state.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, TS Singh Deo said," What has happened in Bihar, we will be doing that (caste census). Today we do not know how many of which categories are at a particular economic level. The question always remains as to how many belong to which category and how much is going to whom. The normal census also has the population of SC and ST."
Earlier Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday asserted if the Congress is re-elected to power in Chhattisgarh, a caste census will be conducted in the state, similar to the one carried out in Bihar.
"I announce that if Congress repeats government in Chhattisgarh, then like Bihar, we will also hold caste census in the state," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said at a public event in poll-bound Chhattisgarh's Kanker.
Reacting to the newly released caste census in Bihar, BJP leader Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Saturday said that people of the state have been fooled by the Nitish Kumar government with this survey.
Rathore claimed that many videos are surfacing from the state where people are mentioning that no government official came to their houses for the census exercise.
"They have fooled the people of Bihar. They are talking about the census. Many videos are coming from Bihar in which people are saying that they (Bihar government officials) did not visit their homes. They only did the paperwork," he said.
Earlier the report of the caste-based survey conducted in Bihar was released on October 2 by the Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government. The Congress is an ally of the government in Bihar.
Chhattisgarh is among five states that will go to the polls by the end of the year. The Congress government came to power in the state in 2018.
