Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 20 : All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Spokesperson Kovai Sathyan questioned that if the Congress party supports the abolishment of NEET, nothing has stopped them from passing an ordinance in their respective states and sending it to the President.
"...They (DMK and Congress) will never work for a holistic solution. Let's believe that Congress is now supporting the abolishment of NEET. What has stopped them from passing an ordinance in their respective states and sending it to the President?... You can't handpick issues and try to build a narrative around it...," AIADMK Spokesperson Kovai Sathyan said speaking to ANI on Thursday.
Meanwhile, speaking on the NEET issue and UGC-NET exam cancellation, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said, "We want a court-monitored investigation. The Vyapam case was also given to the CBI, what happened to that? CBI's speciality is to go after the opposition leaders..."
Hitting out at the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government over the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, Sathyan said, "This incident exposes the incompetence of CM MK Stalin and his governance... Our MLA made representation saying that there is a free flow of drugs and illicit liquor in the district. Please take corrective actions."
"Until yesterday night or till today morning, DMK was in denial mode. The Collector came out in the open saying that it is not because of illicit liquor. They lied to the people of Tamil Nadu, trying to cover up the incompetence of the DMK government... It is a colossal failure of the entire department and the government," the AIADMK leader said.
Earlier in the day, AIADMK general secretary Edapaddi K Palaniswami targeted the state government and said the ruling "DMK is behind illicit liquor sales in Tamil Nadu" and drugs are being sold all over the state.
He also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister MK Stalin over the tragedy, Palaniswami inspected the Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital where illicit liquor victims are hospitalized.
