New Delhi [India], December 11 : Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Wednesday slammed the ruling BJP for politicizing the proceedings of the House, amid the Opposition's no-confidence motion against the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
Speaking to ANI, Kapil Sibal said, "The point is that what we are seeing is played out in the House is politics. We really don't have to go to what one party said over the other. We only have to see the proceedings of the House. What is happening in the House is only politics. The people of India should know where the Rajya Sabha Chairman stands. For it, you just need to see the proceedings of the Parliament. They (BJP) will not allow it (Opposition's no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman) to be moved. They will reject it. And that is politics."
His remarks came after Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Wednesday for the day amid a faceoff between the BJP-led central government and the Opposition over the no-confidence motion against the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The house will reconvene on December 12.
CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar supported the no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar, said that it is evident he was favouring the ruling front and violating all democratic norms.
"It is not a question of majority or minority. The point is that we are constrained to move such a resolution against the chairman of the Rajya Sabha because it is evident that he was helping the ruling front and all democratic norms were violated. One-sided approach by the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, always helping the ruling front and denying the genuine rights of the Opposition. He should not be part of any front," he said.
Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan said that the opposition submitted a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar due to his partisan attitude.
" It is going to be for the first time in history that a No Confidence motion is being moved against the Speaker... They have not left any options for us... It looks as if they are making the members of the ruling party stand and make noise so that the House may be adjourned... The Opposition should have some respect. They should be given a chance to debate. There are so many issues but they don't want the House to run," she said.
The Opposition INDIA bloc on Tuesday submitted a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to the Secretary General of the Upper House.
Congress led by the INDIA bloc has been demanding a discussion over the Adani issue and also held a protest in the Parliament premises.
The first session of the winter Parliament commenced on November 25, with both Houses getting adjourned fairly early due to disruptions. The winter session will go on till December 20.
