New Delhi [India], April 18 : BJP leader Shaina NC criticised Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi for her recent claim that the BJP won't win more than 180 seats if "EVMs are not tampered." The BJP leader termed Priyanka Gandhi's remarks unfortunate and said that the Congress party has accepted the defeat.
"Priyanka Gandhi made a remark not just on the Election Commission but also on the entire election process. India has had a capable democratic pattern, and this will continue. It is clear that the Congress party has accepted defeat. When you accept defeat, you make such unfortunate remarks on EVM tampering," Shalini NC said while speaking to ANI.
"But the truth is that India is the world's largest democracy," she said.
Congress' General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi campaigned in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur on Wednesday and said that if the country conducts fair elections without any tampering of EVMs, then the BJP will not secure more than 180 seats.
She also questioned the basis of the BJP's claim of securing more than 400 seats.
"On what basis are they saying that they will get 400? Are they astrologers? Either they have done something before or they know that they will secure more than 400 seats. Otherwise, how can they say that they will get 400 seats?... If today, in this country, the elections are conducted in such a way that there is no tampering of EVMs, then I can say with full confidence that they will not gain more than 180 seats; in fact, they (the BJP) will win less than 180 seats," she said while speaking to ANI.
Priyanka Gandhi also said that she views the election from the people's point of view and stressed that the elections should be conducted based on the issues of the people. "I am saying this everywhere to the people: that this election should be the election of the people. It should be conducted on the issues of the people."
Saharanpur goes to the polls in Phase 1 on April 19, with Congress' Imran Masood up against incumbent BJP MP Raghav Lakhanpal and Majid Ali of the BSP. The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be declared on June 4.
