Chandigarh [India], August 21 : Former Rajya Sabha MP and Congress leader Dr Amee Yagnik criticized the BJP government at a press conference at the Haryana Congress Committee office in Chandigarh. She questioned the role of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in the Adani-Hindenburg scandal.
Speaking on the US-based short seller Hindenburg's report against SEBI-Adani, she said, "Where is SEBI today? What investigation was done by it? Why is the Adani-Ambani scam being hidden, why is it not being made available to the people?" asked Amee Yagnik, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the matter.
Her comments come after Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal demanded a JPC probe into the Hindenburg revelations last week. The opposition party has been pushing for a thorough investigation into the Adani-SEBI scandal.
Last week, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal had also convened a meeting to discuss the Hindenburg revelations, demanding a JPC. "Today, we convened a meeting of AICC General Secretaries, Incharges and PCC presidents under the leadership of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. We discussed one of the biggest scams happening in the country right now- the Hindenburg revelations, the scam related to Adani and SEBI...We have made the demand for a JPC," said the Congress General Secretary on August 13.
Amee Yagnik also criticized the BJP government for its handling of various issues, including paper leaks, molestation of women, and the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
"BJP has been a completely failed government. Papers are being leaked every day, women are being molested, in this way it has been a completely failed government" added the MP.
On the alleged rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, she said, "Nowadays no one is safe in the BJP government", said Yagnik.
She further accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ignoring the atrocities and seeking publicity instead.
"Atrocities against women are increasing continuously but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not paying any attention to anything", said Dr Yagnik in the Haryana Congress Committee.
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, sparking nationwide strikes and protests by the medical community.
