"Where was BJP when women were being paraded naked in Manipur": Mamata Banerjee takes jibe at BJP

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 7 : Amid a political slugfest between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP over the Sandeshkhali incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee countered the Centre "Where was the BJP when women were being paraded naked in Manipur?"
Asserting that West Bengal is the safest state for women, Mamata Banerjee said, "Yesterday, you (BJP) came here and lectured about atrocities against women. I challenge you, Bengal is the only place where women are safe, and it is the safest state. Where was the BJP when women were paraded naked in Manipur? Where were you when Haryana was burning?"
Sandeshkhali in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district had been witnessing widespread protests against Shahjahan Sheikh this month as a section of women were seeking justice against alleged atrocities committed by the TMC leader. A large number of women in Sandeshkhali had accused Shajahan Sheikh and his close aides of "land-grab and sexual assault" under coercion.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with her nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, participated in the party's Mahila Wing Rally in Kolkata.
The CM also alleged that the BJP is like a "washing machine," where individuals leaving TMC become clean.
She also targeted the central government over the rising gas prices, saying, "Gas prices have increased, and despite the rise in prices, they are still seeking votes."
Mamata Banerjee urged people to raise their voices against the BJP for the sake of the country and Bengal.
"To save the country and Bengal, we need to speak out against the BJP," she said.
Mamata Banerjee had urged everyone to march to the Brigade Parade Grounds on March 10 to protest against attempts to defame and spread falsehoods against Bengal and its officials by the Central government.
"I urge everyone to join us at the Brigade Parade Grounds on March 10 to protest against attempts to defame and spread falsehoods against Bengal and its officials. The protest will take place from 11 pm to 12 pm."
Asserting her party's dominance in the state, the TMC chief said earlier, "Elections may come and go, but the Trinamool Congress will continue to hold sway in Bengal.
"Speaking at a government distribution programme in East Medinipur on Monday, Mamata assured the public that the Trinamool Congress would continue to remain the preeminent political force in the state, regardless of electoral outcomes.
She said while her party's vote share might go up or down, the TMC will endure and will never lose its political hold on the state.
