Kollkata (West Bengal) [India], September 23 : Newly-appointed West Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar has said that he wants to take the party forward by keeping all workers together and his mission is state assembly polls slated for 2026.
Talking to mediapersons, he said strengthening the organisation is also his mission.
With his predecessor Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury seen to be a strong critic of the ruling Trinamool Congress, Sarkar said a party worker will oppose anyone to keep the party's flag flying high.
Answering a query about Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's stance towards the Trinamool Congress and the party's political stand under his leadership, Subhankar Sarkar said it is duty of the party leadership to raise the issue if party worker gets injured or faces injustice.
He said Chowdhury had no personal enmity with Trinamool Congress.
"When a Congress worker is moving forward with the party flag, he will oppose anyone to keep the flag high. Whoever will raise an eye against the Congress flag, we will oppose it," he said.
Both Congress and Trinamool Congress are part of the INDIA bloc.
Sarkar said he will strive to strengthen the Congress, and they will have a dialogue between the party workers and leaders with experience.
"I want to take forward the programmes of the Congress by keeping all the party workers together," he said.
Asked about the challenge before him, he said "Mission 2026 Assembly elections, this is one mission and another mission is my organisation"...
"To make the voice reach the Assembly and the Parliament, a representative is required. And that representative will come from the organisation," he said.
"When Rahul Gandhi started walking, little did he know that he would get such immense support and his voice would reach even the last person standing. Ever since Mallikarjun Kharge has taken responsibility of the party, only good is happening and in the coming days, Bengal will have a Congress government like Telangana. You rise only when you fall. We have confidence. Our stand is to protect the Constitution. Every citizen should have freedom of speech," he added.
Sarkar was appointed as president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday.
He replaced Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who had stepped down from the post after he lost to Trinamool candidate Yusuf Pathan in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from the Baharampur constituency.
