Jalna (Maharashtra) [India], May 9 : Union Minister Raosaheb Danve who is contesting from Maharashtra's Jalna Lok Sabha constituency questioned why the Congress prevented Babasaheb Ambedkar from coming to the Parliament and did not give him the Bharat Ratna if they had supported him.
"Babasaheb Ambedkar stood in the elections from Bhandara. The Congress fielded their candidate and defeated Babasaheb. Later Babasaheb stood for elections at Dadar. The Congress fielded their candidate and defeated Babasaheb," Danve said speaking to ANI on Thursday.
"After Babasaheb's death, the Congress did not give them Bharat Ratna for 35 years. When VP Singh was in power, the Bharatiya Janata Party had supported him, and during that time the Bharat Ratna was presented to him. If they respected Babasaheb why did the Congress stop him from coming to the Parliament?" he asked.
The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said that no one can change the Constitution.
"I have said that no one has been born who can change the Constitution. The Congress has amended it 80 times...The Constitution is as sacred as the Bible and the Gita," Danve said.
On claims by the Opposition that the Bharatiya Janata Party will be tampering with the Constitution and remove the benefits of reservation, if they come to power with a large majority, Danve said, "This is their excuse. People are not convinced with them. They want to confuse people and mislead them."
Speaking about the Narendra Modi "wave", Danve said that it is evident from the large crowd of people attending rallies for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"You have seen people crowding up for rallies. This shows that there is a wave," Ajmal said adding, "People in this country have already decided that they will make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for the third time. The crowd at the rallies is visible in all sectors. Narendra Modi is the Prime Ministerial candidate. People gather to see him. I have been in the Lok Sabha five times and two times in the Vidhan Sabha. I have full confidence that I will be winning in my sixth time."
Speaking about silent voters for PM Modi, Danve said, "There are silent voters who vote for PM Modi even if they do not attend campaigns or if you do not visit their houses. There is a wave- openly as well as undercurrent."
On the Opposition's claims that the Modi wave has subsided, Danve countered saying, "They (Congress) have said the same during the Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh elections as well. After the exit polls, they said that we will be losing Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and a face-to-face battle is going on in Rajasthan. What was the result? We won all the three states."
Speaking about his aim in Maharashtra where the ruling Mahayuti alliance is contesting against the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi, he said, "In Maharashtra, the NDA will be winning 45 seats."
The senior BJP leader pointed out that the INDIA bloc is not united as evident from poll battles in various states in which they are not fighting together.
"Is the INDIA bloc present in Kerala, Punjab? If INDIA bloc had contested the polls together, then the consequences would have been different. But in various places they are not contesting together," Danve said.
"I think they are not together. And after winning the elections, they will fight amongst themselves. I do not think they are capable to working together," he added.
